Sprout Day 144 (Thursday, August 18th, 2016)

It's crazy how much later the sun rises the further north we go.  I can almost feel the difference everyday. I woke up at 5:40 and thought it was closer to 4:00.  Once I realized it was almost 6:00 I got up. Before I started packing I got up and put some water on for coffee. It felt good starting the day with coffee. I feel like we haven't been making as much lately because we've been waking up and feeling rushed to get on trail. It's probably because southern Maine was hard and we were tired every morning.

We went a total of 11.9 miles and camped at Bald Mountain Brook. The hardest climb was within the first few miles.  It’s always nice to get the hard climb out of the way first thing in the morning when we are energized.

I’m excited to get up and get going tomorrow because we have a cave at 1.8 miles. While we were hiking earlier we heard a tree fall.  It sounded like it was close behind us, just down the trail a little bit.  It sounded like a big tree.

Right after we got camp set up a hiker came up and it was Patches.  He was with us the 2nd night at Toms.  Patches set up camp with us tonight .  It was nice talking to him about staying at Toms.  He brought me my rain cover for my backpack. It fell behind a chair and I left in a hurry without it.
