Sprout Day 137 (Thursday, August 11th, 2016)

Aug 11

We had a great day on the trail!  The beginning of our day wasn't the best because Bubbles woke up with a sinus infection and headache but after we got moving she started to feel better.

We only went 6.3 miles because we didn't want to go over the Crocker Mountains today and we made arrangements with a guy named Tom who is going to slack pack us over the Bigalows. There isn't any water over the Crocker Mountains and we figured it would be best to stay at the campsite at the base and drink as much water as possible and camel up in the morning before we hike.

Tom is going to pick us up at a road crossing tomorrow and let us stay at his place then drop us off the next day to slack pack over the Bigalows. It's a 17 mile hike!  A mile before our campsite we swam in a river and it felt amazing!  We sat in the water for over an hour.  It was definitely well deserved and much needed.  While we were sitting there I noticed a red squirrel on a rock looking at the water and all of a sudden it jumped in and swam across to the other side.  I had no idea they could swim but I guess when your in Maine even the squirrels have to ford rivers sometimes!!  I’ve been telling Bubbles if she were an animal she would be a red squirrel, they like to make a loud chatter in the trees!  We got to the campsite early enough to have a fire and relax, it felt good.
