Sprout Day 157 (Wednesday, August 31st, 2016)

Today we hiked to the summit of Katahdin and it is a day I will never forget!  We got to Katahdin Springs yesterday and waited on Poppa Lip to get there.  We already reserved a campsite but there was no service in the area and no way to get ahold of him.  I told the ranger what time he was on the Maine/ New Hampshire border and he gave me a time frame of when he should arrive.  We went to set up the tent and then I went down to the parking lot.  Sure enough, about ten minutes later the van pulled into the parking lot!  I was so excited!  I ran up to greet Poppa Lip and Mikey.  Mikey rode up with Poppa Lip to help with the drive.

Bubbles, Smudgy, and I got up early to get ready for the big hike. We woke up around 3:30-4:00 a.m. and Poppa Lip got up to make us breakfast! He wanted to make sure we had a good breakfast! He wanted to make sure we had a good breakfast before we started the day. What a hero! Not only did he drive all the way to take us back down south for our flip flop, he also made us eggs and sausage.

We wanted to get moving early because it was supposed to rain later. Hiking Katahdin was such an epic hike and is something I will never forget. It was hard and honestly scary at some points. Most of the climb was hand over hand climbing, if you looked down you realized you'd fall straight down!

There's a waterfall at the base it was beautfiul gushing. When we got to the top it was cloudy and once we got on the tabletop we knew we were getting close. It was a crazy feeling knowing we hiked to the northern terminus of the AT. No one was up there except Bubbles, Smudgy Cheeks, and I. I will always remember how proud I was of the three amigos working together and finishing the big mountain!

Smudgy Cheeks waited on us because he got there first and wanted to summit together. Seeing the sign through the clouds was a great feeling, we knew we made it!!

Even though we have the whole southern part to do I feel such a sense of accomplishment! I love the trial and love experiencing it with family!

First sign on the trail today!
