Flying Dutchman Day 9 (Monday, July 4th, 2016)

Happy Independence Day! I am enjoyed my first July 4th as an American on the Appalachian Trail!!

We left Moose Mountain Shelter and started to hike towards Moose Mountain. There was a big hill to climb to get to Holts Ledge. Right after that we stopped at the Trapper John Shelter to grab lunch. I was pretty tired from that hill!
Still learning how to take a selfie!!
We continued on the trail and found a sign for the Ice Cream Man. Dr. Ackerly began a tradition of giving one free ice cream bar to hikers. Unfortunately, he passed away in May but his family continued with the tradition for this season. Ice cream was considered a treat but cola was considered junk and therefore they charged $0.50 for one soda. You could also get free water at the house and charge your phone. Thank you for the ice cream treat!

We stopped shortly after our treat at the Lyme-Dorchester road and camped in the woods near a little stream. I'm glad that I have my tent because the forest has major mosquito problems!

Day: 9
Miles hiked: 8.5
Total Miles hiked on the trail: 104.8
