When we woke up today everything was still damp, very damp. Well, everything but our moods. We were heading into Salisbury to pick up a maildrop. After the heavy rainfall we decided we wanted to stay inside for a night so we called Maria McCabe. She is an extraordinary woman who lets stinky hikers, like myself, stay in her lovely home. She said she had room for us and we were elated.
It was an awesome hike with a waterfall and beautiful bridge to cross over. I was happy to be hiking with my husband and friend, Whiskers.

Thank you to all the volunteers who make the trail safe!
I could not be happier for the blue skies today!

When we walked into Salisbury there was a church there that offered cold drinks, socks, snacks, medical supplies, and toiletries for hikers. It was so sweet and kind of the people to do such a generous thing for the hikers. It amazes me how wonderful people are around the trail.
When we went to Maria's house I knew I was in heaven. This lady is so sweet I couldn't get enough. She made us all laugh with her great sense of humor. I asked her if there was anything we could do around the house to help her. She said she needed her car swept out. I immediately called for Sprout and he obviously helped Maria, no questions asked. She then called me a slavedriver. When whiskers came out she asked "What are you going to do for me now"? Whiskers, being the sweet man that he is, said "Anything you need". Maria handed him windex and paper towels and sent him to wash her car windows while Sprout swept it out. These guys I'm hiking with are awesome.
Maria then took us to the laundromat and dropped us off. She told us to call when we were ready. We did our laundry and ate some pizza at the pizza joint. When we called Maria we didn't realize she would get to the pizza place so quick so we had to finish our beers quick. We found her in the kitchen getting an ice cream cone free of charge ;) We were talking to the pizza shop owner and he was telling us we would end up staying an extra day at Maria's when Maria said "Sorry to cut you short, but we gotta go. The bachelorette is on"!! I laughed so hard I almost fell over. We went to bed happy and full with visions of Maria dancing in my head. My sister, Kathleen, did a really cool side by side of the waterfall. Smudgy Cheeks passed the waterfall on Friday before the rain. His picture is on top! Thanks Kathleen!
