The Sprout Day 37 (Tuesday, May 3)

Woke up in shelter 501 to the sound of pouring rain on the roof.  It was raining so hard and it didn't seem like it was going to let up anytime soon. We went back to bed and got up around 8.  We started packing and getting things together for the day.

When we started hiking the rain slowly stopped.  It was a good feeling not to have to be walking in the rain and it felt good to take off the rain jacket.  It rained so hard that halfway thru the day the trail looked like a running stream! You could tell where people have made their way around and I just followed the new path. It was hard not to get your boots all wet today.
Just a bit muddy today!
We planned to stay in shelter 501 last night because we thought the rain was going to stop and the rocks could dry out. It would have been better and safer to pass thru all the rock scrambles today if they were dry.  Even though they were wet, we did ok and made it safely to the next shelter. It's tough on the ankles and hard to maintain a steady pace when the trail goes over every pointy and jagged rock in its path. We had a few good views today and that always makes the hard work worth it.  At one point we had to cross a highway again it was a bad place to cross but we all made it to the other side safe.

Last night we met a really nice couple from Switzerland, their names are Mountain Man and Karma. They are so nice and great company. We were walking past each other all day and they were going to stop at a hostel but we talked them into coming to the next shelter.  We were so happy they decided to push on and they were happy too. I think we are going to eat together and maybe grab a drink at the Port Clinton Inn tomorrow.

Saw a chipmunk today.

Beautiful trail today
