It's always a good day when you know there's going to be a tavern with good burgers early in the day! Everyone has told us Gyp’s Tavern is a must stop and it's close to the trail. We got there at 10:45 and they opened at 11:00. We waited in the parking lot next to a big lake until they opened. I was able to get a Mountain Dew from the bait and tackle shop right next door while we waited for the tavern to open. When we went inside it was exactly what I needed, a bar with a kitchen and great food prices. We all ordered a couple of drinks while we waited on the fryers and stoves to heat up. Bubbles and I ended up splitting a burger, hot buffalo wings, mozzarella sticks, and a pretzel with cheese. The owner and bartender were friendly and talked to us about good music and life on the trail. We all played songs on the jukebox and had a great time while eating great food! They had an outlet and told us to charge everything up and they would fill our water up for us before we left!
Great place for food and fun!!! |
On the way back to the trail we were all walking by the road when all of a sudden a car rear ended another car right beside us. Jeff was the only one who saw the accident so he stayed back to give a police report. Luckily, no one was injured, the cars were in bad shape and the drivers were shook up a little, but no bad injuries.
Car accident!!! |
As soon as we left the tavern we had a big incline and it was starting to get hot. I think we ate a little too much food for this steep of an incline, especially because the incline was right after the tavern. Oh well, I would not have had it any other way, the food was worth it! We got to the top and took a rest at a big pavilion with a great panoramic view. No camping at the pavilion so we had to move on. It was a perfect day for hiking, it was hot but the sky was blue and the clouds were big and fluffy.
