Sprout Day 49 (Sunday, May 15th, 2016)

It's getting cold again but we are all so happy to be out of Pennsylvania that we don't care how cold it gets at night! I still have enough clothes to keep me warm.

We hiked up to a fire tower today and met four thru hikers from Georgia.  They were nice and we all sat down next to the tower for lunch and shared a couple of stories. They are making great time going 20-30 miles a day!  Of course, I went up the tower to check out the view, and it was amazing! It was up pretty high and I had a clear view in all directions.

Since we got into New Jersey everyone has been on the lookout for a bear.  New Jersey has a high bear population.  We've been hearing stories from other hikers about bear sightings and have seen all the evidence of bears in the area.  The four guys we met said they saw a mom and cub last night right before they were going to bed!

We hiked to the Brink Shelter, it is a nice shelter and looked new.  One thing that we are happy about is that the privies are really nice and clean in New Jersey!  There were a few other tents at the shelter and a couple of people staying in the shelter.

We saw Towsack again today as he was staying in the shelter and was getting ready for his wife to come back on the trail next week. We're excited to see them both out on the trail!

Right before we were getting ready to make dinner it started sleeting really hard. We through everything underneath the rain fly and waited for it to clear up.  Once it stopped we got all of our food together and went up to the shelter and made dinner with everyone.
You can see how cloudy it was where I was hiking compared to the sun getting through the clouds in the distance.
