Sprout Day 48 (Saturday, May 14th, 2016)

Today was a tough day since we just resupplied our food. It's hard getting the food box and going to Walmart all in one day.  Even though the food box had enough food to last until the next food drop box, I feel the need to get a lot more from the grocery store.  It's hard to not get a bunch of food that I want when it's available!  Someone gave us a great tip to get an idea of how much food we are getting when shopping (it’s so easy to throw things in a cart and then realize after packing the food that it’s way too heavy.)  Instead of using a shopping cart to put food in, it’s a good idea to use a shopping basket.  If you're carrying the food in a basket you won't overload on food because you will already know how heavy it is.

We walked out of Pennsylvania and into New Jersey early in the day!  I'm so happy to get out of the Pennsylvania terrain; I'm not going to miss the rocks!   I'm glad we all made it out safe and didn't twist or break an ankle!

When we got to New Jersey we walked through one of the seven natural wonders of New Jersey.  Sunfish Pond is a natural glacier lake.  The water is completely clear and is at the top of a steep climb.  On the way to the lake, and as soon as we got into the state park, there was a creek.  Dunnfield creek was flowing pretty fast and some areas had little waterfalls and pools, it was a beautiful spot.  We saw a guy with two golden retrievers swimming in one of the pool areas.  The dogs were having so much fun running and splashing in the water!

So far New Jersey has been amazing! We ended the day hiking up Kittatinny mountain and stayed at a campground at the top.  You’re not allowed to camp just anywhere so we had to stay at the campground.  We called and reserved a spot a few miles before we got to the campground, good thing we did because the place was filling up fast and rain was on the way!

That night was one of our first experiences with whippoorwills, they're the most annoying bird ever!!!  They only come out at night and they make the same sound all night long without pausing at all, and they're loud!  I think we had a family or group right in front of our tents. It was hard to get a good night's sleep. I was hoping they would pass out (haha) or get the hint when we yelled at them! Leave us alone!
