We started the morning off spending time with Karma and Mountain Man. We didn't want to leave. We could have sat and talked to them all day. They are amazing people and true adventurers.
We left the shelter and about 10 minutes later I had to dig a cathole. The privy at 501 was so bad I had heard horror stories about it from southbound section hikers. I decided to steer clear of that disaster.
Beautiful Overlook today |
We had a 15 mile day and I had to keep my mind positive and off my achy feet. We played leapfrog with Karma and Mountain Man all day (passing each other) and finally met them at Route 183. This is an extremely dangerous road crossing. As we were talking to them a truck pulled up. The driver got out, walked around his truck, and said he needed to, "check the tire pressure". He then proceeded to pee right in front of us! I was pretty shocked, but laughed and then snapped a selfie! I moon walked across Route 183 (actually, I literally ran as fast as I could - which is still slow!
Karma, me, Sprout, can you believe that guy?? |
We thought we wouldn't see my new besties again but we were pleasantly surprised to find Karma and Mountain Man again. They decided to press on instead of staying at a hostel off of 183. We were so happy to see them and we all made it to the shelter without our feet falling off!
We had a nice cozy night together out of the rain in the shelter. It is here that I realized that we both stayed in the same room at the Doyle. Wonder how we come to that realization? I actually asked them if they stayed in room 16 because it smelled like patchouli and so does karma! We laughed pretty hard about that. They are pretty much our trail family and we want to hike with them for as long as possible. Hopefully we stick together tomorrow, too.
